Siracusa
Located in the south-east corner of the triangular shaped island of Sicily and founded by Ancient Greek Corinthians, Siracusa is a majestic city, with profound historical background, as it used to play an important role in ancient times as one of the top powers of the Mediterranean world, famous for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheatres, architecture and association to Archimedes, one of the most affirmed Mathematicians in history. Nowadays, the city is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site along with the Necropolis of Pantalica. After an enormous earthquake and the the plague of 1729, the 17th century destruction changed forever the appearance of Siracusa, as well as the entire Val di Noto, whose cities were rebuilt along the typical lines of Sicilian Baroque, considered one of the most typical expressions of art in Southern Italy. After a process of recovering and restoring, the historical centre of Siracusa has been ongoing since the 1990’s with a wide range of attractions, museums, restaurants and everything the night life can offer.
